* For the past couple of weeks, we have been considering Paul's exhortation to the believers of Rome to offer themselves as living sacrifices to God. * The completion of this "reasonable act of worship," they would need to transformed in the renovation of their mind rather than being conformed to the world. John states in his epistle, "If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 Jn 2:15). James declares, "friendship with the world is enmity with God. Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy with God." (Jam 4:4) * Paul then reveals how this living sacrifice should be lived out in the body and in the world. * Today, in our portion of the epistle, Paul returns to his consideration of living out our living sacrifice in the church with a discussion on how we receive one another. |
