"Man of sorrows what a name for the Son of God who came, ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior!" The Messiah who was to come would suffer and become my sin that I might take on His righteousness! This suffering was part of the plan of God from eternity past, before He laid the foundation of the world. Our God is Sovereign over ALL the affairs of men. Though we, as humanity, cause the overwhelming majority of our own suffering, God has promised that "all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." That purpose is to be conformed to the image of His blessed Son, Jesus Christ, who suffered for us and left us an example in which we should be willing to walk. In fact, Paul declares His desire to know Christ not only included the power of His resurrection but also the fellowship of His suffering. Each of the details of Isaiah 53 were fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
