The goodness of God is expressed throughout Scripture in a two-fold manner - through His mercy and His grace. It is expressed, also, many times in relation to God's righteousness and justice. In Romans 2 we are asked the question, "Do you despise the riches of [God's] goodness ... not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?" The goal of God's goodness (His mercy and grace) is to lead us to repentance - in the process of redemption and restoration. However, we presume upon His goodness!
