Date: February 3, 2019 Title: The Instruction of the Messiah (Pt 5a His Identity) Passage: Matthew 16:13-28 Speaker: Bob Corbin Sermon Note Sheet (PDF) Download Audio |
* Focusing on the Messiah in the book of Matthew. Matthew was a Jewish man writing to a Jewish audience and giving testimony regarding the life and ministry of the Messiah who had been foretold by many of the Jewish prophets. * The recent messages have been considering the Instruction of the Messiah to His disciples in preparation of His death, burial and resurrection. * A few weeks ago, we considered the statements of Jesus that He was the Lord of the Sabbath and that He was greater than the Temple. In this week's passage, we see Jesus begin to bring a sharp definition in the mind of the disciples to who He truly is. Who do the people say that I am? Who do YOU say that I am? * The answer to these questions are still as applicable today as they were two thousand years ago! Consider that today there are religious groups that state that Jesus is: a) the Son-God who was born of the sinless Queen of Heaven (Catholicism); b) the brother of Satan who became a god (Mormonism); c) The Archangel Michael incarnate (Jehovah's Witness). Those beliefs are not just non-biblical, they are unbiblical. * But who do YOU say that Jesus is? Jesus stated in John 8:24 "... if you do not believe that I am (literally: I am I am), you will die in your sins." What you believe about Jesus is crucial! |
