Paul's first epistle (letter) to the church of Corinth was written in order to assist them in dealing with various issues with which they were struggling. Living in a hedonistic, licentious society can have an affect upon the "set-apartness" of the individual believer and gathering of believers.
The section of Paul's epistle that we have been studying recently has been focused primarily on the expression of our "liberty" as Christians in light of our redemption in Christ. As we began considering this section, we saw Paul quote the typical libertarian view: "All things are lawful for me!" He then addressed the Greek philosophy of gnosticism that had begun invading the church with a consideration of true knowledge and it's implication upon our relationship with others in the body - when I cause another believer to stumble, I am actually sinning against Christ! Paul then applied this to his own life revealing how he had sacrificed his "rights" for the good of others. Today, we see Paul's culmination of this subject with a review of the primary discussion points but leaving us with a new perspective on Christian Liberty ... and that is Christian Responsibility.
