* Focusing on the Messiah in the book of Matthew. Matthew was a Jewish man writing to a Jewish audience and giving testimony regarding the life and ministry of the Messiah who had been foretold by many of the Jewish prophets.
* Last week, we considered the compassion of Jesus for the multitude. He saw that they were like sheep without a Shepherd. He saw them as a whitened field ready to be harvested. He called upon His disciples to pray that workers would be sent into the field.
* Immediately afterward, Jesus commissioned His twelve disciples to represent Him and the Kingdom throughout Israel. At that time, Jesus authorized His disciples to cast out evil spirits, heal diseases and even raise people from the dead!
* As they traveled, they were not supposed to be concerned for their provision. They would need to trust God to provide through individuals and towns. Freely you have received, freely give!
* However, Jesus also warned them that they would begin to receive persecution as they spoke in the name of Jesus. They were not supposed to worry about this either. They would be rewarded for their obedience. Those who did not receive them, or persecuted them, would receive retribution. Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
