* The book of Exodus - God's deliverance of Israel and the beginning of their journey in the wilderness.
* In the first three messages, we have considered the context of the Israel's deliverance from the land of Egypt. We have seen that it was a period of great affliction and great faith. We have also considered the development and call of Moses, whom God chose to be His human vehicle for the deliverance.
* Last week, we considered Moses' call but first saw that he had spent 40 years living with Jethro as a shepherd. He was married and had a son.
* As we consider the deliverance of Israel and their journey through the wilderness, we will see several interwoven themes from which we will be continually confronted with opportunities for worship, growth and repentance. Those themes are: the provision and protection of God, the importance and responsibility of leadership, and the rebellion and repentance of Israel.
* Today, we begin looking at Moses as the leader that God had predestined him to be. One of the first lessons that Moses is going to learn as a leader is the lesson of commitment. Commitment to a task is easy as long as it is enjoyable and there is no opposition. However, when there is opposition commitment is put to the test. As we saw last week, Moses doesn't begin this assignment with a lot of commitment or motivation ... so God begins to prepare him - through opposition.
